Basics

Name: Torin Himneskr
Age: 64
Clan: Rava
Martial Status: Open Situationship
Orientation: Bisexual, male lean
Occupation: Mercenary, former sailor, tavern bouncer
Origin: Limsa Lominsa
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Personality: ISFP
A rough, Limsan-raised Rava who was once a part of a cutthroat, brutish pirate crew. He sailed the seas for years, plundering and pillaging wherever the winds took them. When the laws changed in Limsa Lominsa, banning piracy against almost everyone except the Garleans, Torin's crew was initially resistant. They dabbled in moving "spice", scavaging, and when some considering human trafficking, in-fighting started to break out. The crew split with surprisingly minimal bloodshed, but their smaller number left them weakened and exposed. When they ran afoul of a Garlean vessel, they were an easy target.Torin endured a time of being a Garlean prisoner, having watched much of his crew die around him. He likely would have met his end there as well, were it not for him accepting a deal to work with the Imperials as a conscript on their vessels. In truth, he was treated no better for it, but it guaranteed his life which was all he had. After near four years of serving, the vessel came under fire from a Bloody Executioner ship, and he was freed from his chains. The experience soured his reputation with other crews, many of which looked at Torin with spite for being a turncoat. With the proverbial bridges burned, he took to land instead, taking up odd, and often dirty jobs as a mercenary. He just was starting to eke out a living and build his savings up when a job inevitably went wrong again, but in a much darker way...

Personality

Torin is a difficult individual to pin down. He is quick with a cocky smile, or tale of his voyages at sea. He will drink cheap ale around a crowded tavern, joining in any rowdy merrymaking. While on the surface he comes off as a brash, boisterous sailor, it does not take long to see there is a quieter, more calculating side to his personality. The two sides seem perpetually at odds with the other, wanting to live in the moment yet forced to plan ahead. At his very core, his desire for freedom is as strong as his deeply buried heart.

Skills

  • Combat (Melee) - As a seasoned pirate and mercenary, Torin has seen more than his fair share of bloodshed and combat. He prefers his trusted, well-used greataxe for most jobs and will typically carry it when he is anywhere outside city walls. When it is not an option, he is an experienced (if inelegant) brawler with a punch that can send a smaller man off the ground.

  • Marksmanship - Though his axe is preferred, Torin is not a half-bad marksmen. He specializes in pistols and simple rifles favored by Limsan pirates. He is known to keep a pistol tucked away under a jacket, keeping it on hand in the event things go awry.

  • Linguistics - Torin has sailed many seas in his few decades, visiting ports near and far. He has a knack for picking up new languages in his travels to be able to converse with locals and foreign crewmates alike.

  • Aether Manipulation - A peculiar talent that does not surface often, Torin can siphon aether from objects, individuals, and areas rich in it. Despite this, he has no real talent for expelling it, such as in the form of other spells.

Likes & Dislikes

  • Likes: Trying new foods (especially spicy foods), drinking, brawling, trinkets of peculiarity or worth, clear nights, swimming, pretty faces with strong personalities, popular literature.

  • Dislikes: Rain, cold, naivety, formal wear, rats, strategy games (such as chess), octopi or squid.

  • Flaws: Brash, overconfident, fickle. Strong temper when pushed.

Hooks

  • Lominsans & Pirates: Torin is a Limsan native, having spent near the entirety of his life there when not out at sea. He was a troublemaker in his youth, and a regular at every tavern he could find later. At every age, he made himself a nuisance of the Yellow-jackets.

  • Fellow Mercenaries or Bounty Hunters: After returning from his conscription, Torin elected to stay on land and take whatever mercenary jobs paid well. He has a reputation of not being afraid of getting his hands bloodied, often hunting down bandits or criminals, leaving his moral ambiguity to be questioned.

  • The Last Drop: Torin has recently took on another job as a bouncer for a small tavern in the Brume, The Last Drop. He can often be found there to keep an eye on the patrons.

  • Aetherically Sensitive: Torin's aether isn't unusual on its own, but there seems to be something more to it than just him. Those sensitive to it might perceive an icy concentration that is carried with him.

OOC Info

I am a US based East Coast RPer who has been RPing for quite a long time. I love to world build, and be sucked into the worlds that other players create as well. I have built several communities in XIV with the help of close friends, and together have made many amazing stories. I am always looking for more, so don't hesitate to talk to me about plotting!

Para-RP?

I tend not to describe myself as a para-RPer. My posts will vary depending on just what I want to say. Sometimes, several paragraphs aren't necessary, especially in the middle of RP conversations. I've found that trying to write too much will end up feeling unnatural, and it will be almost like the characters are having two or three conversations at once. That being said, there are times where several paragraphs are necessary. It all depends on the scene and what I am trying to convey.

What I am looking for:

  • 21+ Roleplayers: I'm older, relaxed, easy-going, and I like my RP friends to be the same. In addition, I shy away from players who aren't good at separating IC from OOC or RP with characters who seem to be self-inserts.

  • Dark / Mature RP: Torin is Rated M for Mature. He swears like a sailor (shocking), makes crude jokes, and is no stranger to violence. His story deals in heavy and dark themes and I intend to proceed with the same energy going forward.

  • Grammatical Awareness: I am a terrible grammar nazi. I'm sorry. I'm not going to nitpick over a misspelled word here or there, but if there are consistent, glaring errors, it breaks a lot of immersion for me. I put a lot of effort into my writing, and it is nice when others do the same.

  • Romance? Romance with the snarky bun is not out of the question, but he's more likely to engage is casual endeavors than emotional connections. Anything more than casual would be slow-burn and polyamorous.

What I am not looking for:

  • Lore breaking: Some bending and elaboration is great, just not outright breaking it (IE. Forbidden jobs, being from another fictional universe, voidsent who like going to nightclubs, etc.).

  • XIV as a modern setting: Please don't wear your Yeezys and use your tomestone like a cell phone while waiting in line at the Eorzean Starbucks.

  • Slice of life ONLY

  • IC / OOC Meshing:

  • Players seeking a DM: I am happy to and WILL present storylines as they happen, but please bring your own, also.
